The University Research Council

The University Research Council (URC) is an advisory board appointed by the President to assist him in the promotion and management of University research. The Vice President for Administration and Planning serves as the Chair of the URC. The functions of the Council are:

           •    To recommend research policies and priorities
           •    To evaluate research projects in light of those priorities
           •    To recommend fund allocation for research
           •    To review and evaluate the results of research projects
           •    To act as screening, review, and evaluation committee of research projects supported by the Professorial
                 Chair Endowment and other University grants (i.e., LS Scholarly Work Faculty Grant; University Research
                 Council Grant)



Associate Dean for Research and Creative Work for the Loyola Schools

The Associate Dean for Research and Creative Work for the Loyola Schools develops and coordinates programs that foster and support the scholarly work of faculty. He or she liaises with the Vice President for the Loyola Schools, Vice President for Administration and Planning, the University Research Council, and other bodies that are involved in faculty scholarly work activities. More specifically, the Coordinator:
           •    Administers the LS Scholarly Work Faculty Grants
           •    Assists the LS Vice President in specific scholarly work projects (e.g., Agenda for Hope)

          As ex-officio of the Committee on Scholarly Work, he or she:

           •    Administers the LS Scholarly Work Publications Awards
           •    Coordinates the scholarly work efforts of the Schools
           •    Initiates scholarly work activities and policies as necessary
           •    Publishes a biannual compendium of LS scholarly work

The Associate Dean for Research and Creative Work is appointed by the President upon the recommendation of the Vice President for the Loyola Schools for a term of three years, renewable for other terms of three years. He or she reports to the Vice President for the Loyola Schools.


School Research Coordinators

The School Research Coordinators develop School programs and activities in coordination with the LS Research Coordinator and in line with LS research thrusts. They facilitate the development and implementation of a workable research agenda for the School, maintain a database of scholarly work of faculty, disseminate School-relevant research information, and address the research needs of the faculty in collaboration with the LS Research Coordinator.

Committee on Scholarly Work

The Committee on Scholarly Work reviews and develops policies and guidelines pertaining to faculty scholarly work; screens and recommends recipients of the LS Scholarly Work Publications Awards; monitors the reports of recipients of the LS Scholarly Work Faculty Grants; and does other functions as the School Council may deem important.

Committee on Ethics

The Committee on Ethics reviews and develops policies and guidelines on ethical behavior of faculty, administrators, and professionals in the conduct of their profession, based on the LS Code of Ethics in Research; deliberates on research proposals that require approval of an Ethics Board/Committee; reviews complaints regarding breach of ethics and makes recommendations with regards to those complaints.
