Teachers working toward transforming the Philippine Education System
Teacher Training Program Batch 8

Last April 28, 29 and 30, the E-KASI QC! (Edukasyong Kalidad na Angat sa Iba, Quezon City) Team successfully conducted its 8th Teacher Training Program at the Ramon Magsaysay Cubao High School. The teacher training program is a series of workshops for public school teachers conducted by the Ateneo Center for Education and Development (ACED) in partnership with the Quezon City government and the Department of Education (DepEd).

This program aims to further develop the instruction skills of teachers both in the primary and secondary level, in the hope of uplifting the quality of education in public schools here in the Philippines. It has continued to serve as an avenue for teachers of various schools in Quezon City to impart their experiences and abilities with each other. This project also intends to provide an effective support system and link between private and public schools as they jointly work towards the development of the educational system.
This summer, a total of 1,146 public school teachers participated in the recently held seminar – 912 from the grade school level, and 234 from the high school level. In addition to this, there were 32 teachers who willingly volunteered as facilitators for the respective classes offered – Elementary Science, High School Science, Elementary Filipino and Elementary Social Science. These facilitators were from the Quezon City Division Office and the Ateneo Grade School. Some major changes were also introduced in the recently-held teacher training program. In fact, this was the first time that the 3-day seminar was generously hosted by Ramon Magsaysay (Cubao) High School.
Since this was the first time that the Teacher Training Program was held in one of the participating schools, it was a good opportunity for schools to begin to seize the program as their own. The teachers were also given an opportunity to be exposed to a new environment of learning. In addition, new subjects—Elementary School Filipino and Elementary Social Sciences—were offered as part of the program. All these changes were made in order to broaden and deepen the scope of the teacher training program. With these changes, the E-KASI QC Team hopes that it can greatly contribute to the long-term goals of the said program.
